On the day of the visitation the reception went as well as it could have, someone greeted and opened the door for every person who came in; coffee, tea and other refreshments were available, along with cookies. The later reception went later than listed; they did not mind.

We thanked them for all of their kindness and compassion, later, as we picked up the thank you cards printed to match the memorial cards.

There was also an invitation to an open house to come pick up an ornament with my mother's name and the year of her passing on it. I walked in (again, greeted with the door opened for me) with my boyfriend. Paul remembered and greeted me, asking how things were with all the members in my family. It was nice to know that we were all remembered too. There were refreshments and cookies offered. A television showed a slide-show of all those lost this year. My mother's picture brought tears to my eyes and I reached for one of the boxes of Kleenex (which were never hard to find). There were a few trees around the room with the ornaments on them. They were simple but pretty in red and cream colours. Two people helped me find my mother’s and it was boxed up for safe traveling when we were ready to go. I was also given a copy of a beautiful poem to offer comfort to those who have lost a love one and must deal with the holiday without them. There was also another pamphlet on how to help you cope with this hard time.

A beautiful casket was chosen, with a strong, waterproof vault to protect it. They provided us with picture boards to cover in memories to put up around the room and edited the picture we provided for the memorial cards. They created a slide show with more pictures that played on an electronic picture frame and a signature book was provided. They also contacted newspapers of our choice and has them print the carefully written (with us involved) obituary.

I would recommend this funeral home to anyone and everyone who loses a loved one. If, like me, you need to be completely involved in every step, they will allow you to be. If you need to have everyone take care of the small details for you, I imagine they will accommodate you in every way they can. They were caring and compassionate; respectful and professional, and definitely sensitive to all of needs and demands of two grieving girls who needed to see everything perfect.

I am 22 and my sister is 25. Our mother passed away this summer. It was very sudden after a very brief illness that took her away from us. We knew she did not have very long but when she passed away, the doctor, who had seen her only hours before, was shocked. Unfortunately, she passed away in another city and it was complicated to be able to bring her home right away. I was adamant and would not leave until I knew she was on her way to our home city.

A few months passed and I received a pamphlet on dealing with the first holiday months without a loved one. There was also an invitation to attend a tree lighting ceremony with a commemorative board for all those lost whose funerals were there in 2009.

Along with a very nice funeral home to host the visitation, they offered many different choices for her memorial cards, thank you cards, caskets, vaults and many other things. They arranged for the donations to reach where they belonged. They also had a link on their page so people could find my mother's funeral details and send condolences and donations online. All of these were given to us later.

Smith Leroy funeral home is the most compassionate funeral home. They still after 7 years send me a laminated copy of my Moms memorial. They helped me through a very difficult time and when my time comes that is where i will be. They are "people that care" You aren't a dollar figure. Thank you Paul and Heidi for choosing Woodstock

On the day of my mother's funeral, things, again, went smoothly. Paul arranged to have the casket and flowers delivered to our home church in another town on the day of funeral, as well as bring her to the cemetery. They took care of the pallbearers and asked how we wanted the funeral to start and end. Again, things went later than they were supposed to, but they didn't mind.

I contacted Smith-Leroy and dealt with Mr. Leroy (Paul) himself. After a few phone calls back and forth, he said if we could get all of the documentation needed then he would certainly come that night to bring her back.
